Reclaim Your City 366 | Selective Response (Costa Mesa) Though his home of Costa Mesa in South California may evoke images of idyllic sunsets and chillax parties by the seaside, the music of Crisis Of Man boss Selective Response rather relies on the unrelentingly wild and woolly side of electronics to get its point across. Hammering down a sizzling sesh of 303-marinated electro, EBM-laced chuggers and full on roughhouse techno, his RYC mix smacks hard and fast, so prep your hides for the comeuppance. Closely involved with a two year residency for local promoters Magie Noire and Raum, Valentin is soon noticed outside of his hometown Montpellier for his dedication and distinctive production style. With a continuous passion and enthusiasm for modular synthesizers and classical drum machines, he started the "Blenk" project in early 2018. Combining old school production and DJ tools with a modern approach, he spends a lot of time on sound design in search of the future foundation for his often atmospheric yet energetic techno tracks. His first EP appeared in March 2019 on Dustin Zahn's excellent Enemy Records label, with support from the likes of DVS1, Joel Mull, Rene Wise and many others. His second 4-Track EP on Enemy "Fragments Of Vision" will be released on December 6th and can already count on the support of heavily influencing producers such as Luke Slater, Truncate and RØDHÅD to name just a few. Reclaim Your City 356 | Tigerhead (Berlin)
Emerging from an isolated city in the quiet confines of Bohemia, Tereza R. pursued her love of music and arts from an early age, playing and singing in bands before moving to Berlin as a teenager. She quickly developed a deep love for DJing and collecting records, spending most of her time digging for hidden treasures. Her passion and enthusiasm led her to the Killekill label where she began her promising production and DJ career. During her time with Killekill she has brought her ever-refreshed record bag all over Berlin and Europe. Her raw, surprising and full of diversity sets in Berghain, Griessmuele and ://about blank have attracted attention all over Europe, with standout gigs in London, Paris, Rennes, Nantes, her native Czechia etc. She has also made her debut on Boiler Room in 2017 as a part of a Krake Festival and for the moment working on a mix for Crack Magazine. Tigerhead is also a promising composer, strongly committed to developing her own sound and her own production style. Knocking out vinyl nostalgia with AIROD on Reclaim Your City. Reclaim Your City 355 | AIROD (Paris) DJ, Producer and Label owner of Elixyr. Dario Brkic aka AIROD is perhaps one of the finest incarnations of what the French techno scene can bring to the table when it comes to turning any cold-walled warehouse into a proper coal-fired furnace. Since he broke through on an international level in 2018 with his debut solo 12″ on Molekül, drawing instant support from the likes of Dasha Rush, Blawan, Randomer, Kobosil, to name but a few, AIROD’s kept forging his own strain of techno, both dark and muscular, blustery and tirelessly corrosive. A shared bill with French techno ace Amelie Lens at REX Club would soon seal Dario’s fate, prompting Lens to get him on board her highly reputed Exhale parties across the Globe, of which he’s since become a mainstay. Taking their collaboration to a new extent, AIROD’s inaugural 12″ delivery for Amelie’s label Lenske – the aptly-titled ‘Voltage’ – finds him delivering a quartet of high-octane dancefloor wreckers that promise to get the pressure gauge into the red zone effortlessly, no matter the hour of the day or the baking level of its audience. An increasingly in-demand talent, Dario also joined Dax J’s Monnom Black stable in the meanwhile, contributing a track to the label’s eagerly anticipated debut VA ‘The World Of Monnom Black’, alongside some of today’s techno’s most renowned big guns. A meteoric rise to supreme power for the Parisian producer, whose touring agenda has gone from busy to chock-a-block in a jiffy, and we grant you this, ladies and gentlemen, is just the beginning. Reclaim Your City 354 | Najel Monteiro (Rotterdam)
Monteiro is something of an antithesis in today’s social media obsessed techno culture, which is in stark contrast to its underground rebellious roots derived in industrial, urban-decayed cities, principally Detroit [USA]. It should come as small surprise that Monteiro’s influences are deeply rooted in Detroit techno folklore. Two of a few names Monteiro cites are Jeff Mills and Robert Hood, legendary founder members of Detroit’s ‘Underground Resistance’ who are frequently referred to by music writers as the voice of techno, in similar vein as ‘N.W.A’ were to Rap music. Monteiro leverages his music to ‘voice’ societal statements, providing ‘techno purists’ hope of a renaissance: a new generation of young, socially-conscious techno producers ready to challenge the status-quo. Monteiro certainly proves talented enough to express his feelings through the power of innovative, authentic futuristic music, with an equal measure of soul. Monteiro's credits include an exclusive remix feature on the limited edition exclusive release of Chicago, DJ Pierre’s legendary ‘Acid Trax’ on Afro Acid, which also features remixes from Carl Cox and Luciano. Monteiro’s latest release, the superb ‘Silence is Acceptance EP’, on Motech Records, is a taster of things to come. With heavy support from the likes of Ben Klock, Truncate, Laurent Garnier, Ben Sims and Dave Clarke, 2019 is shaping to be a year where Monteiro lets himself to be heard on a global scale. Reclaim Your City 352 | Fadi Mohem (Berlin)
Raised in the outskirts of Berlin, Fadi Mohem developed a passion for electronic music at a young age. His studies in Sound Engineering and the subsequent work as a Mix & Recording Engineer improved his technical skills and the sound of his own productions. Instead of following trends, Fadi Mohem always seeks to fulfill his own sound ideals. Influenced by early Detroit Techno and Berlin Dub Techno, Drum & Bass, Dubstep and IDM, he likes to break the frame. With his debut release on WERK in late 2017 he got to show his definition of Techno, which is built around fast and funky rhythms with repetitive, body moving sequences. The WERK 12“ was followed by an appearance on Modeselektor’s Modeselektion Vol. 04 and two full EPs on their newly revived label Seilscheibenpfeiler, again packed with straight ahead Techno weapons. In October 2019 Fadi Mohem joined Ben Klock ́s carefully selected Klockworks catalogue with KW27. In his DJ Sets Fadi Mohem feels comfortable in about any slot, always delivering a well thought out selection of tracks to move the crowd. His Live Sets get down to the core of what Techno is about - a hardware only jam that ́s created right on the spot, always unique. Reclaim Your City 351 | Nite Fleit (London) Australian-born, London-based Nite Fleit has cultivated a distinct, uncompromising sound of her own, setting the club circuit ablaze, through refined DJ sets and genre-melding original productions. A kaleidoscopic palette of influences, ranging from golden-era EBM and rave, to contemporary acid and electro, runs through the young artist’s recorded works. Distilling years of idiosyncrasies as a curator, Nite Fleit, real name Alysha Fleiter, unleashed her first, complete solo effort, Steel City Dance Disks Volume 7, in late 2018, promptly following it up with Overcast on Tiffany D’s label – a braindance-leaning exercise in rhythmic propulsion. Following this in 2019, Fleiter released her next offering, Moogie, in collaboration with long-time friend and famed selector, Mall Grab on his coveted Looking For Trouble imprint. The Australian’s left-of-center body music gems quickly caught the ears of Helena Hauff and Umwelt, setting Nite Fleit on an upward trajectory through the ranks. Along her meteoric ascent, Nite Fleit has gone live at the Boiler Room, an unprecedented three times. Touching down for key club and festival dates across Asia and Europe, Fleiter kicked her aesthetic imperfection into high gear throughout 2019: culminating in an unforgettable debut Berghain performance. Back in her London studio, Nite Fleit is alchemising the wave of energy from recent shows into new recordings: three long-awaited mixes and five spellbinding EPs are set for release later this year and early 2020. I Murdered, Orphx, JK Flesh Blood In Blood Out 12” Vinyl with Limited Edition Artwork (edition of 150) Order at bit.ly/RYCL011_deejay Two years after their debut drop as I Murdered on Mord, Berlin local Janice and US-born, Berlin-relocated Luis Flores reignite the flame with their hardline second outing and first for Reclaim Your City, ‘Blood In Blood Out’. Both schooled under the banner of mind-intrusive techno that packs a punch, the two have forged distinctively wild sound signatures, steering at a distance from weak-kneed raving pose and increasingly unsubstantial trends. As I Murdered, Janice and Luis explore the most severely trenchant facet of their respective universes, immersing their heavy-duty analogue wares through halls of noisey abrasion and further ear-splitting, gut-churning FXs to keep the adrenaline rushing in torrential downpours. Comprised of two originals and a pair of remixes courtesy of boundary-pushing Canadian duo Orphx and Justin Broadrick under his JK Flesh alias, the EP plunges us in a wildly enjoyable kind of nightmarish, dungeon-like scenario. While the title-track makes for some Frankensteinian creature of sorts, electric riffs bringing its dead flesh to life as thunder strikes all over the place, Orphx revamp gives it a more straightforward, acid whip, cutting the raw gem into a further efficient, club-suitable weapon. Flip sides and ‘Insomnia’ unleashes the rogue, murdering stomp on a harsh EBM/cold wave-infused tip, with JK Flesh flying in on intruder mission for some last ditch heroics, breathing in a healthy dose of hyperventilating vox samples, knee-buckling breaks and face-melting junglistic moves in true Source Direct fashion. Buckle up and brace yourself, high-impact material all the way.
