We all know the feeling of hang-xiety. One drink became two, two became 8 and then next thing you know it’s the next day and you feel like you just want to curl up into a little ball and disappear. Your head is pounding and you can’t look anyone in the eye: even your local shopkeeper. You feel like everyone knows and everyone is in on the joke too. Bad Decisions is written from the pits of that feeling. Trouble is, it’ll happen again, and you know it will too. Just when? Lyrics I’ve made some bad decisions, I’ve made my worst ones here, I’m making bad decisions, Thought I’d improved this year. And you saw me slip into this alcohol induced rebellion, And you saw my mutiny with your own eyes. Falling down, Falling into you. What do normal humans do, fellow sapien would never act this way, Disrespectful member of society, If you really want the truth, I can’t even even look at you, Feeling like a let down to the gene pool. And you saw me slip into this alcohol induced rebellion, And you saw my mutiny with your own eyes. Falling down, Falling into you. Now I need you, Before I get out of hand, Now I need you, 'Cause I can’t even stand. Falling down, Falling into you, You saw me drown, You saw me sink right through.
As a band, one of our favourite quotes we’ve ever had written about us is “Only Sun have a knack for writing songs that sound like they are teetering on the edge of a cliff, before diving into a massive hook”. This is not one of those songs. This is a demo we started working on back in 2018 that starts in free fall, already halfway down the cliff, before tumbling into the canyon below and finishing firmly at the bottom of the river bed. The demo was entitled “JEFF”, after the one and only Jeff Bridges, due to the inexplicable number of bridges the song contains. 2 years ago, when Euan uttered the words “pasta tagliatelle” as genuine lyrics for this song, the demo was shelved. Hidden away in the dark corners of the Only Sun archive, never to see the light of day. Until now… We’ve dusted off the cobwebs, and finished (sort of) the demo just for you, as a lockdown treat. Ladies and gentlemen, we present: JEFF.
