Lexi Maxwell is a chaste, headstrong female with team spirit and wicked debate skills. The poster child for any parent seeking perfection from their offspring. But Lexi isn’t a child anymore, and on the weekend of her eighteenth birthday, she decides it’s time to make a few choices of her own.
At their Nova Scotia estate, the Maxwells host their dear friends to celebrate Lexi’s birthday. While all the usual suspects are there, including Lexi’s godfather who she affectionately calls Uncle Z, one guest arrives uninvited. Luke Carrington is handsome, charming and witty, and Lexi crushes hard. But her Uncle Z is none too pleased, and her family is on edge about Luke’s appearance. Does Lexi care? Hell no. She and Luke are inseparable; battling it out on the croquet field, staring into each other’s eyes, sharing a first kiss.
As a birthday surprise, Lexi’s friends reveal their true identity. They are immortal gods of Olympus. Not only does her Uncle Z turn out to be Zeus, but her crush is Hades. The conversation turns volatile when Lexi is told she will be serving the gods at their seaside playground, keeping them entertained and out of the public eye just as her parents have done.
After a well-deserved meltdown, Lexi learns that Hades was not involved in the scheme, and she takes comfort in this, but when she finds out that Zeus is her birth father and she is a demigod, her world spins out of control. Lexi makes some impulsive choices, starting with giving Hades her virtue, and Zeus is livid when he learns the two are falling in love. He forbids the union, threatening to separate them forever. With her options decreasing and her heart yearning, Lexi follows Hades to the underworld to pursue true love.
